About this policy
TechPartner respects your privacy and handles personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
This policy explains how TechPartner (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information when you visit techpartner.com.au, contact us, or use our computer servicing, software repair, virus removal and clean-up services.
TechPartner is based in Perth, Western Australia. ABN: [insert ABN].
What we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide our services. This may include:
- Contact details — name, phone number, email address and street address (for onsite visits, pick-ups or deliveries)
- Service details — the devices you bring in, make, model and serial numbers, a description of the fault, and notes about the work we do
- Account and access details — device passwords or PINs, only where you choose to give them so we can test or complete the repair
- Payment details — invoices and payment records (card payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store full card numbers)
- Website data — IP address, browser type, pages visited and similar technical information
- Communications — emails, messages, enquiry form submissions and notes from phone calls
We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (such as health, racial or religious information). You can deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym for general enquiries, but we will need your details to carry out and invoice a repair.
How we collect it
We collect information directly from you when you contact us, fill in a form on our website, book a job, drop off a device or pay an invoice. Occasionally we may receive it from a third party, such as a person who refers you or books a repair on your behalf.
Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies — small files stored by your browser — to keep the site working, remember preferences and understand how visitors use it. We may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics, which collect anonymised or aggregated usage data.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may not work properly if you do. You can opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
How we use and share it
We use your personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and provide quotes
- carry out, test and follow up on repairs and services
- issue invoices and process payments
- contact you about your job, including warranty or follow-up issues
- improve our website and services
- meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations
We may send you occasional service updates or offers. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
We only share personal information where needed to provide our services, or where required or authorised by law. This may include:
- our website host, email and cloud storage providers
- payment processors and our accountant or bookkeeper
- parts suppliers or manufacturers, for warranty claims
- law enforcement or government agencies, where legally required
Some of these providers (for example cloud and analytics services) may store data overseas, including in the United States. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle your information consistently with the APPs.
Data on your devices
We only access files on your device as far as needed to diagnose and complete the job you asked for. We do not copy, keep or share your personal files, photos or documents beyond that.
- If a backup or data transfer is part of the job, any temporary copy is securely deleted once the work is finished and you have confirmed your data is intact.
- Passwords you give us are used only for the job and are not kept afterwards. We recommend changing them once you get your device back.
- Please back up important data before handing over a device. Repairs such as virus removal or reinstalling software can carry a risk of data loss.
If we come across material that we are legally required to report, we may need to disclose it to the relevant authorities.
Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access or disclosure. These include password-protected systems, encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our website, and limiting access to people who need it.
We keep records only as long as we need them for the purposes above, or as required by law. For example, tax records are generally kept for 5 years. After that, we securely delete or de-identify them.
If a data breach is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
Access and correction
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days. If we refuse a request, we will explain why in writing.
Complaints
If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first. We will aim to respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the OAIC on 1300 363 992.
